R2K Nevada: Obama +1

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 10:07:39 AM PDT

Check it out here. It's a virtual tie--Obama 44% McCain 43%, but there are some interesting insights in the article:

The (so far) missed opportunity

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 09:19:07 AM PDT

One thing most pundits agree on is McCain has made inroads in the polls partly because he has siezed the initiative on energy policy and national security, recent polls are now even showing McCain catching up on economic issues.

If this trend continues we can say hello to 4 (8?) years of President John McSame which should be good only for the "usual suspects"

Artists: Obama T shirt design contest

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 07:40:20 AM PDT

The Obama campaign sent out an email this week to creative people who have vector capability and can turn a brilliant design in by August 31, 2008. For the campaign! It's a contest, and people vote on the designs they like.

Because if I weren't on the mailing list, I would appreciate someone on the list telling me about it, so I'm spreading the word. I did a search for any related diaries, and I found a nice diary by
itsjessme promoting one of the designs in the contest.
Nice work, BTW.
(if there are any more on this, forgive me because I couldn't find any.

I am not sure just anyone can submit. It's possible only $$ donors are invited, hence my received invitation. I don't know.  BUT, even if you can't or don't want to submit design, perhaps you can enjoy looking over the gallery of submissions.

Details below.

My first time post: US election from a foreign perspective.

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 06:43:14 AM PDT

Hi guys, I've been a lurker here for quite some time. I am not an American. I am an immigrant working/living in Toronto Canada as an animator and I've been following US politics and polls very very intensely since 9/11. To be honest, US politics is so much more fun and interesting than the boring-ass Canadians, not to mention more gut-wrenching as well. I used to support Hillary Clinton until she went all negative on Obama. Now I'm an Obamaphile like many of you. The world needs an Obama presidency, that much is true. But I'm disheartened that McCain has been gaining in the polls when the republican brand should be in the dumpster.

Sometimes I wish I was an American just to be a political junkie who can actually make a difference.

What's wrong with US voters???

God is Pro Choice

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 06:39:39 AM PDT

I remember Obama's insightful answer at Saddleback Forum regarding when life begins. I was so proud. He is a humble and wise person. To me, there are some things that we simply do not know and may never know. The moment of life is one of them. If we believe the bible account of human life, and this diary is based on that, then no one knows absolutely when life actually enters the body of a fetus.

Bush administration to surrender in Iraq

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 06:37:00 AM PDT

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice pressed Iraqi leaders Thursday to agree quickly to a U.S.-Iraq security deal that outlines the withdrawal of American troops.

per APNews

Iraqi and American officials told The Associated Press on Wednesday that negotiators had completed a draft agreement that extends the legal basis for U.S. troops to remain in Iraq beyond the end of this year, while calling for them to move out of Iraqi cities as soon as June 30.

Would that headline really stop you for voting and or working for Obama?  Yes I know the reasons for why he has lost favor with democrats, but does anyone honestly believe that he wasnt made a fool of by the bush administraion.  I woke up this morning immediately checking if there had been a text message (is it just me or is anyone else feeling like kid on christmas eve?)and also thinking, how about Colin Powell.

We Dems Need A Wake-Up Call...Badly....

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 06:13:47 AM PDT

One of the favorite rhetorical devices that candidates running for the presidency like to use is to compare themselves to some former president, usually of the same party, in hopes that whatever favorable image Americans have of that past president will rub off on them. For the Democrats it's normally FDR and JFK. For the Republicans it's Lincoln and Reagan. It dawned on me that there is a former Republican president who almost no candidate uses as an exemplar of how he would be as president and that is Dwight David Eisenhower.

McCain's Judgment: Equal To Bush's

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 05:09:43 AM PDT

The clearest indication I have seen to prove that voting for McCain is the equivalent of voting for a third Bush administration is this video from the Larry King Show in 2001 that The Jed Report has put out on the web:

If this is how McCain thinks, then his judgment is certainly questionable.

Evan Bayh for VP

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 12:15:05 AM PDT

The speculation on Obama's choice for veep is running amok at this hour as conventional wisdom has it that the Illinois senator will pick his running mate Saturday in his homestate's capital of Springfield.  Fortunately, many pundits still list Senator Evan Bayh, from neighboring Indiana, as one of the leading contenders.

VP Watch 2008 Part Deux: Media in a Tizzy

Wed Aug 20, 2008 at 10:35:23 PM PDT

Received a text message this evening.  Immediately sprung to my cellphone to which stated...who cares it's not from Barack Obama!

Here is a recap of the today's comments from the potential veeps:

Biden

Average Joe Has a 'Successful Dump'

Upon his return from disposing of the logs, Biden pulled up in his pickup, saying he had nothing to report, but "I had a successful dump."

"I had a successful dump. I dropped everything at the dump. It all worked out and by the way I got a second load, guys, coming and if anyone wants to help me unload let me know, those stumps weigh about 150 pounds."

Does he know how that come across?

No one jumped at the opportunity from the press corps.

Humor is a plus.

Hillary Clinton: No More Passes!

Wed Aug 20, 2008 at 09:53:17 PM PDT

You know I try and remain optimistic.
Everyone says not to speak ill of the Clintons for purposes of unity. Well I cant hold my tonuge any longer. HRC doesnt really want to unify.

You know its one thing to claim unity to a group of Obama supporters...but what is she doing to bring her supporters over?
