Fun with Fetus Fetish Fighters

Wed Apr 02, 2008 at 11:40:36 PM PDT

(crossposted at Barefoot and Progressive)

I was walking through the University of Kentucky's campus today and ran upon a little demonstration in front of the classroom building. There were about 20 huge pictures of bloody fetuses, along with "Stop the Genocide" signs.

If you know me well, you know... well.... I can't resist.

Brain Break!!!

Mon Jan 28, 2008 at 01:18:13 PM PDT

For everyone here who's tired of candidate/primary diaries and the like, I thought I would remind everyone how lucky we have it here.  At least we don't have fundies all over the place bringing down the IQ of all of us.

Here are a few examples of what I mean, I found a few posts on www.fstdt.com that if I had to see on a daily basis I would probably be drooling on my self by now.

Nebraska AG supports the Huckster...

Ok so I am sitting here blogging along... and I turn on MSNBC, and I see the Nebraska Attorney General standing behind Huck, glad handing and applauding him in SC today....

The Church of the "Blue Yummy".

Tue Jan 15, 2008 at 05:51:24 PM PDT

A long time ago, a friend of mine told me that he couldn't go to church anymore with his wife and children.  The local preacher was becoming more and more activist and right wing, and his sermons were becoming a rant against gays, and liberals, and how they would all ruin this country.

So he decided to stay home each sunday, crack open a Busch Light (Locally called a Blue Yummy) and savor his own freedom from Fundie Dogma in his own way. At his own, non-denominational, non-affiliated and non-judgemental "Church of the Blue Yummy".

States Rejecting Useless Abstinence Funding/'Education'

Mon Dec 17, 2007 at 05:58:28 AM PDT

More and more states are refusing to put up with Bush's faith-based gaslight, especially where Sex Ed is concerned:

The number of states refusing federal money for "abstinence-only" sex education programs jumped sharply in the past year as evidence mounted that the approach is ineffective.

At least 14 states have either notified the federal government that they will no longer be requesting the funds or are not expected to apply, forgoing more than $15 million of the $50 million available, officials said. Virginia was the most recent state to opt out.

Considering that the states are cash-strapped thanks to their having to shoulder much of what used to be the Federal government's job, for them to turn down "free money" is remarkable.  But they have their reasons.  (More after the jump.)

SHOCKING! (not really) Mega Church leader sex scandal

Tue Nov 20, 2007 at 05:30:00 AM PDT

Well, the fundies are at it again.  See no evil, hear no evil, have sex with your sister-in-law.  Just another day in the life of a money changer.

Root, root, root for the Lord's team

As the National League champion Colorado Rockies enjoy their record-long eight-day layoff before the World Series, where they'll meet either the Cleveland Indians or the Boston Red Sox, there's one thing they're likely to do a lot of besides working out:

Praying.

"These People are Nuts"

Mon Oct 16, 2006 at 06:01:10 PM PDT

...so sayeth Lawrence O'Donnell on Scarborough Country last week, referring to the religious fundies.  The panel was discussing David Kuo's new devastating (but hardly surprising) book "Tempting Faith", the one Keith Olberman discussed all last week with his advance copy (which I italisize because Olberman humorously noted he received his advance copy by walking into a bookstore and asking for it).

First things first:  here is some of what Lawrence O'Donnell (West Wing producer, Huffington Post contributer and political analyst) said, in response to the charges David Kuo puts forth in his book that the Bush Administration ridicules the religious fundamentals behind their back (while smiling and accepting their votes to their faces):

How Bush lost my Fundie stepmom

Wed Oct 11, 2006 at 09:03:32 PM PDT

Wow, what a difference a couple of years makes.

I'm not even sure where to start with this.    My father is a retired Army officer, a man who spent his life designing top secret weapons systems for the military.  He's a die-hard Republican, probably never voted Democrat in his life, and he probably never will.    He claims to have been spit upon by "hippies" when returning from Vietnam.   An engineer with three degrees, he is an extremely intelligent man in his own rational mathematical sort of way.   I used to enjoy talking with him about just about anything, because he always had a unique point of view, based on his experiences.   Even if we didn't agree, we could have a really good conversation about politics, science, or whatever.

Use Foleygate to surpress the Fundie vote

Sat Sep 30, 2006 at 05:08:26 PM PDT

Well, Mark Foley has given us a wonderful gift.  Now, the key is to milk it for all its worth.  To do that, all we need to is think, what would Rove do?  If Karl Rove were sitting in our shoes, I don't think he'd be worrying about trying to get the story all over the MSM (although that would be a very good thing).  He'd be trying to hit the GOP where it really hurts.

Separation of Church and State? Not in Kansas according to Phil Kline.

Tue Sep 12, 2006 at 08:08:32 AM PDT

As many of you know, Kansas has been leading a fairly progressive movement to take back our state from the extremist right wing faction of the Republican party.  They have embarrassed good Kansans with their agenda of "Intelligent Design" and their fanatical approach to ending choice for women in this state and elsewhere.  One of the most visible fundies is Phil Kline, current Attorney General in Kansas.  His opponent in the upcoming election is one of the much ballyhooed converts to the Democratic Party, Paul Morrison.  Now, Paul has been a lifelong Republican from the wealthiest county in Kansas, but the extremism in his old party became too much and with the help of Kathleen Sebelius, he crossed over to battle the religious fundamentalist, Phil Kline.  You see, Phil has been trying to dig through all the abortion records in Kansas looking for (wink, wink) cases of incest and pedophilia.  Follow me below.....

Let's outlaw Abortion AND Contraceptives!

Wed Aug 23, 2006 at 06:21:29 PM PDT

I was over at Pam's place, reading the latest lamentations of the wingnuts (Pam keeps track of the crazies from the culture wars like no one else), and it suddenly occured to me that maybe we should fulfill the fundies' wishes.  Reverse Roe V Wade, outlaw contraceptives, arrest abortion doctors for 1st Degree Murder (death penalty anyone?), remove all access to sex education from our schools, libraries and book stores (though the internet doesn't fit well into my snark) and poof! we have the America the fundies have been longing for.

But what would that America look like?

Medical denials eroding healthcare

Tue Jul 18, 2006 at 02:19:46 PM PDT

I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore.

This Post piece discusses (sympathetically) the health care professionals that make decisions for people and refuse them health care that is legal.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/...

Some excerpts:

Ultrasound technician Donald Grant of New Richmond, Wis., was fired by a Minneapolis clinic in 2002 after he prayed with a patient to try to persuade her not to get an abortion

Pharmacist Gene Herr was fired by a drugstore in Denton, Tex., in 2004 after refusing to fill a rape victim's prescription for the morning-after pill. "This was the worst-case scenario," Herr said. "This was the hardest decision I ever made. The heinousness of a rape is a horrible thing. But I don't think you should punish a child for the sins of the father."

And then there's the guy who won't prescribe Viagra if you're not married.

Too Fucking Stupid to Feed Yourself!

Tue Jul 11, 2006 at 12:55:45 PM PDT

OMFG!!!!!!  This moron reads an article in The Onion, and thinks that it's real?
Can you say Completely P\x/N3d???
I knew you could.
Here is the fair use beginning of his post:

Here are some quotes from a pro-abortion person, Miss Caroline Weber, who wrote an article at The Onion online magazine.

The Onion Article

When referring to the killing of her child she said:

"I am totally psyched for this abortion!"

"Those pro-life activists made it pretty clear that, unlike me, they actually think abortion is bad and to be avoided. Are they nuts? Abortion is the best!"

"It wasn't until now that I was lucky enough to be pregnant with a child I had no means to support."

"I just know it's going to be the best non-anesthetized invasive uterine surgery ever!"

Well, now we know where Bush gets his 30% approval rating from. It appears that now, in addition to fighting conservatives bad ideas and screw up morals, we have to cut their meat for them.

This guy could not get water out of a boot if you put the instructions on the heel.

Editor Considers Dropping Coulter. Help Him Decide

Thu Jul 06, 2006 at 09:18:45 AM PDT

...And it's not for the recent claims of plagiarism.

The editorial page editor of the Shreveport Times, Craig Durrett, is considering dropping Coulter:

We have, in recent history, discussed whether it was time to cycle out Coulter, based more on whether she brings anything constructive to the table regarding ideas and issues.

Heh.

Note that they are only in the considering stage of deciding whether or not to bag (no pun intended) Coulter. Let's help the editor come to a conclusion and maybe, just maybe, this snowball will start rolling...

Dis-Engaging

Fri Jun 30, 2006 at 06:13:10 PM PDT

I have read quite a number of thoughtful and constructive diaries on how to actually have a conversation with wing nuts and some sad ones about how folks feel after being attacked.
I happen to live in the rural south by choice because it is one of the few places left in America where an ordinary person can afford to buy a few acres and escape suburban stepford land. It comes with a price, of course, I am surrounded by fanatical bible thumpers, people who drive around with confederate flags on their trucks, and who wear those t-shirts that say, " The South Will Rise Again."
