Recently we have witnessed a spate of Cat (subversively monikered "pootie" in these pages, perhaps to get us doggies and dog people all warm and fuzzy and complacent like, as they plot their whiskery, tuna scented take over) diaries. Some come from left field- a "Pootie and Puppy Christmas (sure it included dogs, but it was in name only!) by PhillyGal, innocuous on the surface, but undoubtably full of subliminal proCat propaganda; others, like Frankenoid's(and you thought Frankenoid just repped gardens. Clearly Frankenoid is a PLANT, sent from Cat Political Takeover Headquaters, [or CPTOHQ]!) are more bold, spelling out their agenda in the very title line! Brothers and Sisters! I have a dream, too! And my dream begins with a canine caucus so large, united, and unstoppable that our only only battle cry is triumph!

Sometimes the best way out of this crap we call the American way of life seems to be to burn my ears and bury them so I don't have to hear the droning bullshit of our congress, our senate, our media. The thing is, I'd still have to gouge my eyes out and bury them too, so I don't have to watch this slow disintegration and sew up my mouth so I don't have to talk to morons, and then I'd just look terrible. I've been pretty depressed lately. The endless war, the coming war with Iran. The credit crunch. The fact that just when we thought we'd be buying a place, instead we find it impossible to get a loan. The erosian of American jobs and the economy in general. It's overwhelming when you think about all of this crap too much.
Since we heard the news of Gonzales' untimely demise as Bush consigliere, I have been worrying endlessly about Skeletor aka Michael Chertoff coming in as his replacement. Chertoff scared me, personally, because he is an incompetent, fear mongering buffoon. The thought of him heading the Justice Department after the stellar job he has done with Homeland Security is pretty terrifying.
This morning's breaking news has me shaking in my shoes: Joe Lieberman is a favorite potential appointee.

I didn't think my first diary back would be a rant, but I am totally depressed and frusturated right now. I went home sick from work this am and when I got home, everything was fine. I went to the doctor, and when I got back home, everything was crazy. The streets around my house were blocked off, the neighborhood was filled with
5-0, and the coppers were questioning everyone. I couldn't help them, b/c I'd missed the action, but I asked a neighbor what was going on since the police wouldn't tell me. I found out that someone killed a baby and left it in the bushes by the recycling center. My heart is aching for this poor little baby, and this travesty could have been prevented. Our social safety network is completely broken, and we need to demand social justice so little babies, troubled parents, and desparate people are no longer victims of the system.

The FCC has been treating us like babies for 5 years now, and it's gotten a bit tedious. A mere year ago, we* thought there could be no greater threat to the public airwaves than Michael Powell-he of massive deregulation, censorship, and indecency mania. A man who was so threatened by Janet Jackson's nipple, he decided to go after not only network TV content, not only Am/FM audio content, but CABLE TV content.
Kevin Martin is long-time conservative activist the Shrubster appointed on 3/17/05. Striking fear into hearts of those of us involved in media work, and those of us who simply enjoy various media formats. Martin's desire to deregulate government influence upon telecommunication companies and to increase the monitoring and enforcement "indecent content" on the airwaves(how do you reconcile those 2 things? This is a diary in response to the banning rampage and the resulting "naughty behavior" restriction diaries. While this didn't directly effect me, it effects me simply b/c I am a member of this community, and I'm not sure if it's OK to ban someone b/c you think they go over the line by endorsing nonracsist conspiracy theory, especially when such postings can be easily countered and discredited. Regarding Hunter's Community Standards diary, I feel that there is a huge gap between the first example and the second, third, and fourth examples. There really is no comparison between hysterical thinking and racist value judgements/comments. Racism, homophobia, sexism, and classist BS are intolerable.
Banning foolishness, on the other hand, seems to be a rather Draconian measure.
